Syd's Eastside Awarded Interstate-McBee Distributorship

Syd's Eastside has been awarded dealer and distributor rights to carry, sell and promote the Interstate-McBee line of quality aftermarket parts for industrial heavy equipment and machinery engines.

Syd's Eastside has spent the past week or so updating its aftermarket heavy equipment and machinery engine parts website at Diesel Rebuild Parts to reflect the addition of this new parts line and manufacturer.

Interstate-McBee represents a significant expansion into our offerings of aftermarket parts for industrial engines both in the addition of more parts offered for CAT products, as well as in the additional brands supported by Interstate-McBee parts. The scope of heavy equipment engine and/or fuel injection parts is broad and includes such names as:
  • Caterpillar
  • Cummins
  • Detroit Diesel
  • Navistar
  • Komatsu
  • American Bosch
  • Robert Bosch
  • Delphi (Lucas, CAV, & Simms)
  • Stanadyne
  • John Deere
  • Ford
This diversity in supported brand lines allows Syd's Eastside, and its Diesel Rebuild Parts website, to extend and expand its support and market reach in offering quality aftermarket engine parts and overhaul kits for industrial engines.

Furthermore, Interstate-McBee quality aftermarket products covers more rebuild parts than available through our IPD parts offers, including fuel injector parts, fuel pump rebuild kits and diesel cylinder heads for CAT, Cummins, Detroit Diesel and Navistar. This means that even our current line of performance engineered CAT aftermarket parts from IPD is further enhanced by Interstate-McBee since we can now offer more parts availability, more parts supported and more complete options for our customers.

Therefore, it is with great pride and excitement that we announce the availability of the complete line of Interstate-McBee quality replacement parts for industrial application engines.

Interstate-McBee started business 60 years ago rebuilding fuel injection systems and soon became an OEM fuel injector manufacturer for Detroit Diesel and others by innovating and introducing new technology into the industry.

Interstate-McBee continued to grow and now manufactures a wide array of replacement parts for many brands of industrial engines which it can stand behind by maintaining high quality control in its manufacturing process.

We hope that you will enjoy this new addition into our aftermarket components catalog. This expansion of the Diesel Rebuild Parts website represents the continued and active development of our aftermarket automotive parts and product line. Look for more developments and announcements to come in our aftermarket parts offerings in the future.

Introducing Diesel Rebuild Parts

Announcing Diesel Rebuild Parts

Because of branding problems, we have renamed our AftermarketCat.com website and rebranded it as Diesel Rebuild Parts.

Never would I have imagined that Caterpillar, Inc. would take issue with our use of the domain name, AftermarketCat.com. It isn't that "Cat" is a common word that is used constantly and is even considered short for the word "catalog", although I suppose this may have enhanced my confusion. But where I had erred has to do with the simple fact that we never considered our business as in competition with CAT®. After all, if people want original equipment parts they would obviously know to go to the original manufacturer, CAT® (or Caterpillar®). It is ludicrous, to me, to think that they would go anywhere else unless they are looking for aftermarket parts. Aftermarket means "not original equipment". But according to them, we are in competition with their engine parts line, and now that I have the opportunity to see the situation from their side, I certainly can see how they could think that.

It is people looking for aftermarket rebuild parts for these industrial engines that will cost less, perform better and/or last longer who will come looking for our products. So, we are not really in any sort of competition with CAT®, and the argument that we are is actually quite a stretch, for me.

Unfortunately, they are right about the branding issue, though. I do see their point. CAT® is a leader not only in the industrial engines market, but is also a leader in an extremely wide and expansive field that includes heavy equipment, mining equipment and turbines, as well. It actually amazes me that I was stupid enough to think of CAT as a generic term, or nickname, that we could use in describing our own brand.

Part of the problem has probably been the influence of the modern search engine. Search engines require specific keywords for any kind of decent search engine results. Since we are offering aftermarket parts for Caterpillar® engines, it seemed that our domain, AftermarketCat.com, was right on the money. Afterall, we are only supporting CAT® engines. And to top that off, we are supporting both the diesel and the natural gas (methane) engines. Obviously, DieselAndNaturalGasEngineParts.com wouldn't have worked. And we wanted a domain that said something about us and was somewhat short and easy to remember. Aftermarket Cat was, after all, downright catchy.

To be sure, this big snafu has been all my fault. I am the marketing director (and webmaster) for Syd's Eastside Auto Parts™. I understand brands as both a graphic designer and a business owner, myself. I am amazed how I could have overlooked such a well-known brand as CAT®. As I look back on it I wonder if it is Caterpillar's own overwhelming huge success that is at least contributing to the problem.

Similar tragedies in successful branding have occurred. I often ask for a Kleenex® when I want a facial tissue, even though I buy Puffs®. And as I see CAT® more everywhere, including NASCAR®, it becomes a thought at the fore front of my brain that only Caterpillar, Inc. could have accomplished through its own advertising success, thereby diluting its own brand. Nevertheless, I am not looking to provide an excuse, I am merely looking to draw some understanding out of my embarrassment.

However, we have not only acknowledged CAT®'s point, but we as a company, Syd's Eastside Auto Parts™, have taken quick and deliberate actions to demonstrate our concern and regard for the issues at hand...
    Syd's Eastside Auto Parts has:
  1. Moved the entire website to a different domain, DieselRebuildParts.com.
  2. Completely rebranded the previous website (using only generic terms) as Diesel Rebuild Parts™.
  3. Created a new Trademark logo and favicon graphics for the new website and brand.
  4. Thrown-up a generic (non-branded) web page at the old web address of AftermarketCat.com which provides links to both DieselRebuildParts.com and Cat.com to ensure that we are not confusing our customers.
  5. Included Cat.com prominently in our web resources directory to ensure that we are not confusing our customers.
  6. Enhanced our website's Disclaimer page with regard to our intellecual properties and our non-affiliation with CAT.
  7. Included the link to the Disclaimer web page in the Main Menu (this link was previously at the end of each page, above the Copyright notice).
  8. Addressed issues concerning wording and phrases used that CAT felt was misleading.
Eventually, we will be issuing a new press release re-announcing our new website, once we are sure that we have addressed all of Caterpillar's concerns. In the meantime, please note that our new website address and the new official brand for our line of IPD™ engineered and manufactured quality aftermarket engine parts line and overhaul kit products intended for Caterpillar® brand diesel and natural gas engine applications...

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts™ is an authorized dealer and distributor of quality IPD™ premium aftermarket parts and overhaul kits for most of the Caterpillar® brand engine line. Celebrating The First Anniversary of Our Online Presence

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts, Used Cars & Rebuilders has now been online at http://www.SydsAutoParts.com for over a year. Our website has grown and expanded with our business.

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts, Used Cars & Rebuilders had previously been online for 8 months or so prior with a packaged website that allowed visitors to search our inventory, but didn't allow e-commerce and wasn't customizable. Interest in our auto parts offerings quickly grew and that's why we created our own custom professional website with full search capabilities cross indexed for interchangeable parts and full, secure e-commerce capabilities.

In the past year we have added website functionality and expanded our business:
  1. Added licensed Hollander Interchange cross-indexing to show all available interchangeable parts across makes, models and years in our Online Auto Parts Search Results.
  2. Continued to keep and maintain an up-to-date catalog of our available Used Cars and Trucks For Sale offers online through the website.
  3. Added E-Commerce functionality with a secure Shopping Cart for online auto parts shopping.
  4. Offered New Aftermarket Auto Parts through our toll-free ordering service.
  5. Added a Featured Parts & Products Showcase to allow us to highlight some of our available tools and products, as well as showcase our new and used auto parts.
  6. Expanded our business to offer Aftermarket Caterpillar Diesel Engine Parts.
  7. Added a section for our Heavy Equipment & Machinery offerings.
Remember that we are no longer just a salvage yard and now offer new aftermarket automotive parts and aftermarket Caterpillar diesel parts.

We look to further expand our product and service lines further to better accomodate our customers in the future. We certainly hope that you will be pleased with the results.

Thanks to our customers and suppliers for our past and continued success!

New Aftermarket Cat Engine Parts Sales

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts now has the capability to offer New Aftermarket Cat Engine Parts to the general public as an authorized IPD distributor and dealer.

For those of you that might also be looking for aftermarket Cat (Caterpillar) motor parts, Syd's Eastside is expanding it's product line into this area. Currently, we are investigating solutions for offering these aftermarket Cat engine parts online. However, we can already order many aftermarket Cat motor parts for you if you would just give us a call at 1-605-665-5119 or Toll-Free at 1-800-505-5119.

IPD is a global manufacturing, engineering and distribution company providing quality components for heavy-duty equipment. IPD focuses on helping equipment owners save money without risk to reliability. IPD has been the standard for heavy equipment component quality, innovation and support since 1955.

Many of these aftermarket parts exceed the Caterpillar original manufacturer's specifications, so although these parts may cost less, they often introduce better reliability over original equipment parts.

IPD parts innovation includes:

  • Grooved connecting rod bearings for use in Caterpillar 3400 series engines which help reduce cavitation and extend bearing life.
  • Crevice seal style liners for Caterpillar 3400 series engines which can help reduce the amount of cylinder liner movement and o-ring failure in these applications.
  • When mechanics complained of excessive blow-by in 3208 Caterpillar engines, IPD developed the first 3-ring pistons with dual ni-resist inserts for this application.
  • IPD was one of the first companies to offer Induction Hardened Cylinder Liners for use in Caterpillar engine applications.
IPD aftermarket heavy equipment parts includes a tremendous variety of offerings for the Caterpillar diesel engine family. An extremely simplified list of the kinds of examples of their products follow:
  • Articulated Cast Steel Pistons with Aluminum Skirts
  • Gallery Cooled Pistons
  • Piston Rings
  • Induction-Hardened Cylinder Liners
  • Crankshafts
  • Camshafts
  • Valve Train Parts
  • Lifters
  • Throwers and Baffles
  • Rocker Arm Buttons
  • Fuel Nozzles
  • Fuel Pumps
  • Water Pump Kits
  • Bearings (i.e.: Copper Alloy Engine Bearings)
  • Bushings
  • Premium Material Gaskets and Gasket Sets (OEM steel or IPD composite)
  • In & Out of Frame Complete Engine Overhaul Kits.
IPD manufacturers superior part products and overhaul kits for:
  • Caterpillar 3406E & C15 Engines
  • Caterpillar 3508/3512/3516 Engines
-Over 700 part numbers not including gaskets and o-rings!
  • Caterpillar 353/379/398/399 Engines
-Over 500 part numbers not including gaskets and o-rings!
  • Caterpillar 3304/3306 Engines
-Over 1000 part numbers not including gaskets and o-rings!

    -D339 -D342 -G342 -D343 -G353 -D346 -D348 -3204/3208

Having your Cat motor configuration number will help expedite the ordering process, as this will give us more information that we can use to look up the engine configuration. In some cases, we may require the equipment serial number.

Avoiding the Pitfalls of Link Building and Sinister Link Exchanges

I wrote an article about linking and the way sinister link exchanges profit from those who do not understand link building correctly.

The article is available at:
http://www.sydsautoparts.com/Linking-Evils.php

I think it is a pretty good article, myself. I really haven't seen another article like it. Though it is pretty much based on common sense, some may not be as well educated on the subject of Link Building, so that they can't make the connections concerning sinister linking techniques. Hopefully, this article lays everything out so that it is more easily understood.

A slight warning... this isn't a mini article that can be devoured in a few minutes, this is intended as a serious article that is written to help any webmaster, including beginners. If it misses that mark, tell me. I am anxious to hear how I might improve it.

http://www.sydsautoparts.com/Linking-Evils.php

Although this article is not directly automotive related, I know of many small business automotive shops starting or struggling to get their business online. This is intended to assist businesses (from any industry) with some great pointers along those lines.

New Featured Parts & Products Showcase

Welcome Back to the Autos and Automotive Blog!

We have been testing and are now putting the final touches on a new Featured Parts & Products Showcase section at Syd's Eastside Auto Parts. We are happy to announce that it is now available and working. All online transactions are secured with 128 bit encryption and are safe (as usual for e-commerce at Syd's Eastside Auto Parts).

We will be adding many automotive parts and products to this new section over the next coming weeks. Here, we will be able to feature new auto parts and products, as well as showcase old auto parts.

Currently, the showcase is featuring a steering wheel from a 1949 Pontiac, and another from a 1952 Mercury.

1949 Pontiac Steering Wheel1949 Pontiac Steering Wheel

1952 Mercury Steering Wheel1952 Mercury Steering Wheel

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts will use this section to showcase such older products as well as to expand our reach and offer new auto parts and automotive products.

The
Syd's Eastside Auto Parts Search remains an important and functional focus for the website, where our customers can search virtually our entire inventory. But the Featured Parts & Products Showcase allows us to offer parts and products that you might not expect to find at an auto parts and salvage yard.

We hope our customers will enjoy the new service and that it may attract new customers.

New Automotive Groups at Google Groups

Syd's Eastside Auto is proud to announce that it has started two new groups at Google Groups:

Autos & Automotive
An automotive and motorsports group for discussing all things automotive related. Topics may include autos, automotive mechanics, auto shows, automobile racing, automotive parts, salvage, classic cars, collector cars & more. Pickup trucks, tractor trailer trucks and motorcycling are also allowed. New members must be invited, although non-members may request membership. Each membership request must include a personal response so that we know that they aren't a spam bot collecting email addresses from such group mailing lists.

AutomotiveParts
Hunt for or offer automotive parts. Anyone may join to find or sell auto parts. All posts offering auto parts must include whether it is a used, rebuilt or new auto part. New parts should further indicate whether they are OEM, aftermarket or high performance parts. This group offers a unique opportunity for entreprenuers, salvage yards, parts shops, auto parts search pools and other automotive industry products. We welcome new aftermarket automotive and high performance auto parts sellers from drop shippers and wholesalers. Discuss the business or advertise your goods. Anyone may view the posts, but membership is required to post. New members must be invited, although non-members may request membership. Each membership request must include a personal response so that we know that they aren't a spam bot collecting email addresses from such group mailing lists.

Whether you are an automotive industry professional or just an automobile enthusiast, you will probably want to join the first group, which is more of a general subject group for anything automotive or motorsports related.

The second group is intended to offer a format for parts searches and querries, as well as offer a format from which automotive professionals can offer automotive parts, products and supplies.

We certainly encourage those of you who wish to join to do so. We are asking for a personal response from all new members in order to keep spam bots and spammers out of the group. We get enough spam as it is, I imagine you do to, as spam has alarmingly become a significant problem for anyone who conducts business on the internet.

New WebRing: "Automotive" - Seeking New Automotive and Motorsports Membership Sites

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts is happy to announce a new WebRing.

Automotive WebRing

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts, Used Cars & Rebuilders sponsors the Automotive SEARCH Network, which will also serve as the initial starting site for the new Automotive WebRing. The Automotive WebRing Hub is an official WebRing.com webring.

As we have previously announced, Automotive SEARCH is a selective search engine for automotive and motorsports related resources. More information about this new search facility is available in a couple of our previous posts, Automotive Search and Automotove Search Homepage.

Syd's Eastside Auto Parts is also a member of the webring, of course. Funny thing is, another member joined before actually getting the webring code implemented on that site and so the sponsor's site is the third on the list in their own webring. LOL!

But we are happy to have any and all family friendly automotive and/or motorsports related websites join our webring. The more membership we have, the better of a webring community it will be. The better the webring will be, the better the Automotive SEARCH Network will be, as well.

Google PageRank Updates: January 2007

For those who don't know, Google maintains a numeral rank for each website it indexes. This rank is called the Google PageRank, and is often refered to as the PR of a site. According to Google's toolbar, PageRank is Google's measure of the importance of a page. In fact, a PageRank was one of the very first measures of trust for a website. More often than not, web surfers armed with a PageRank enabled Google toolbar in their browser would not trust a site which reported that the website they were visiting had a Pagerank any lower than 3. Some sites won't even link to another website with a PR of less than 4. It's all pretty paranoid, really.

When we started hearing that Google had updated its PageRank values for websites on about January 7th, 2007, we were getting excited that ours should update soon, as well. As time marched on our PR did not update, and this was making me and my boss more and more nervous (and frustrated). Our main website at Syd's Eastside Auto Parts has been trapped in the Google Sandbox with a lowly PageRank of 1 (on a scale of 0 to 10) for over 6 months, now. I was starting to think of the Google Sandbox as a sandpit filled with only quicksand.

Apparently, we are pretty far down on the list of websites for Google to update. Then, on January 25th, 2007, Google finally showed us a new PageRank of 4 for our website. I was so releived, as we had been fighting for a decent PR value for well over 6 months, and the strain on our business seemed intolerable. I was actually quite happy, having thought we would have to struggle another 3 months, until the next update, without any recognition of our hard work and effort in building the website, our brand, and for our considerable online marketing efforts.

But, Google wasn't done, yet. On Monday I came to work to find that our local shopping, tourism & business listings directory for Southeastern South Dakota, Yankton Shopping, had also been updated to a PR of 3 (from 0). To top this off, today I found that our Automotive Search Network and this blog (which you are reading now), were both among the websites further updated with Google PageRanks of 3 (each, they had both previously been rated 0).

Now, we hope that Google will take into account our last few pages that we put up recently durring the next Google PR Update... Our SydsEastside homepage at Google Pages, and our new Autos & Automotive group at Google Groups. ;)

If you are interested in joining our automotive and motorsports related group, Autos & Automotive, please be sure to check out our Group Welcome Page. We are very interested in signing-up automotive industry professionals, auto enthusiasts, car clubs and motorsports related members!

Look for further announcements concerning our group in the near future!

One thing I should mention, before I close this entry, is that Google's PageRank has not yet updated on all of Google's web servers. In fact, in the course of a day, I will notice that the Google toolbar will report a PR1 and later a PR4 and then flip-flop between the two throughout the day. Once Google updates all of it's servers that serve the Google Toolbar's PageRank, the PR should remain steady throughout the day. Let's hope that it won't take another Google update for the PR to be distributed to all such web servers. Hopefully, Google will address this in the future.

We hope you have a great day/night ahead of you! ;)

New Automotive Articles Online

Syd's Eastside Auto is proud to announce that over the past month we have been adding articles to the website, in the new Articles section.

We have started this section with 3 articles about vehicle maintenance and preparation:
  • Winterization discusses how to prepare your vehicle for the winter, as well as preparing yourself for cold weather roadside emergencies.
  • Coolant Change illustrates the mechanics and positive affects of changing and maintaining your coolant levels.
  • Spark Plugs explains the basic knowledge required behind changing your spark plugs and wires. This is actually quite a good article since spark plugs usually are a tell-tale sign of exactly how your engine is performing. We plan to expand on this article in the future.
We hope that you will find these articles helpful. We are planning on adding even more automotive articles and mechanical tutorials in the near future.

Syd's Eastside Auto has also added more online contact web forms to make it easier for our customers to contact us and to direct specific comments or requests to the correct department or person. This should help expedite email based assistance for our customers. Our physical address and telephone contact information will also be found at the bottom of each of these web forms incase you would like to contact us more directly.

We will continue improving the website and invite everyone to offer thier own suggestions and feedback concerning our website, as well. In fact, the Site Feedback web form is also online to facilitate any such comments criticsm about the website.

We hope that you enjoyed a HAPPY HOLIDAYS and will have a GREAT NEW YEAR!
